The problem is that Mulder is an all-or-nothing kind of guy.
Logically, he knows he needs to stop feeling sorry for himself or the heart he wears on his sleeve will tip off Scully. In practice, however, he seems to overcompensate.
He doesn’t realize this, though. He’s so preoccupied trying to embody “partnerly professionalism” as instructed by FBI policy that he falls back into old habits. Where he should pay attention to Scully, he can't seem to see any farther than himself.

Summary
It’s still not clear to her how or why Kara, who she has always known to be painfully straight and miles out of her league, would even entertain the thought of allowing Lena into her bed. But then, Lena has been on a self-destructive streak as of late and tends to tear down anyone in her path, so she can’t say she’s all that surprised.
Or, Lena's misguided assumption that she has drunkenly seduced Kara leads to a much-needed confrontation months after Kara's betrayal has left their friendship in ruins.

“Preparing for war, are we now?” a familiar voice asked, his lame attempt at sounding lighthearted swallowed by the sorrow in his voice. Clearly, he was making an extra effort to sound polite and well mannered, but it came out with a bitter tang of condescension. Either way, his unexpected arrival and disdainful tone didn't faze her in the slightest and she remained seated on her crate, continuing to scrub relentlessly at the blaster in her hands.
Or, Cassian patches up Jyn's wounds on the shuttle back to Yavin IV after their fight.

Summary
They stay that way for a long time, Catra’s face tucked into Adora’s shoulder, Adora gently cradling Catra’s head. Adora is careful not to hug Catra too hard or make her feel restrained, anticipating the moment that Catra will start to pull away — but Catra doesn’t. She hangs on so tightly it hurts, her claws digging through Adora’s jacket and into her back, latching into her like she did when she was a kitten and didn’t know how much her claws could hurt. Adora tries not to wince, tries not to move a single muscle, worried that if she does the spell will break and Catra will struggle away, appalled at having shown weakness.
But Catra doesn’t let go. And so neither does Adora.
