Max smiles again, a quiet and furtive shape, like he's sharing a secret. "Can't I see an old friend?"
"Is that what we are now?" George lobs back.
"I haven't missed this, you know." Max leans down, elbows pressed against the bench as he studies George's plating. "This back and forth. I have considered us friends since we met. You are the one who is making it—"
"If you say difficult—" George had begun gesturing to him with his tweezer, and wishes deeply that he were holding a knife instead.
"Fine," Max acquiesces, far too easily for his liking. "Awkward."
