A shell falls directly in front of him and the stranger steps over it. Its metallic surface caves into the hollow center in globs like melting wax. The same is true for every other shell that falls soundlessly. So the stranger pays them no mind.
All the stranger knows is his foot in front of the other, the snow it sinks into, and the artillery dropping down from the sky like rain. Nothing else exists. Nothing else but the flat tundra can be seen for uncountable miles in every direction.
And so the stranger walks, head empty of meaning beyond the here and now…

Four hearts are a lot to juggle during war but when has anything ever been easy for a paratrooper?
Dick struggles to keep his mates safe as he moves through the ranks. Nixon fights to keep himself out of the bottom of the bottle and be there for his mates. And Speirs? Speirs just wants to be loved for the man he is, not feared for the gossip that has surrounded him. All three Alpha fight tooth and nail for love.

"Let me buy you a drink," Hunter offers, clapping him on the shoulder, his touch heavy as lead, hot as a dying star crashing through the heavens.

All men had that capability, she presumed, and women too, but John's spectrum of it ran wider than what she was used to. Sledge at least has the decency to quickly hide his surprise with gratitude as they switch cans. He looks down at his newly acquired meal with something akin to pride, and Snafu thinks that he wants to see him smile more.
