Jean jabs Reiner in the ribs questioningly. “Why are you so pale all of a sudden?”
Reiner’s mouth opens, then closes. His thoughts collide and tangle into one never ending knot.
Jean shrugs and squints at the approaching trio, consisting of one new inmate -- a man with long, unkempt hair, eyes narrowed to slits, and his mouth pinched in a snarl -- flanked by two guards, each gripping an arm firmly despite the shackles around the man’s feet, the hands cuffed securely in front of him. The man has an unhinged, feral look about him like an animal that’s been in a cage for too long, a thread wound too tightly on the verge of snapping. It’s more than a little familiar. He’s wearing the same clothes as Reiner, Jean, and everyone else on the floor, but he looks like he should be wrapped in a straight jacket instead.
It's Eren fucking Jaeger: the very tangible relic of Reiner's previous life come back to bite him in the proverbial ass.
He can’t stop himself from uttering, “Eren?”
Then Eren’s head turns sharply, and his eyes lock onto Reiner.

Punk is a fossil in comparison. He’s been ravaged by father time, wrinkled and the skin stretched taut across his bones. He is dry and fissured, one wrong blink away from a stroke. The greying hair on his temples and overtaking his stubble is nothing like the occasional charming grey that Seth gets, frets over and begs her to pluck out with tweezers.
He doesn’t say anything. She doesn’t want him to. There’s not a sentence in existence he could utter that she’d have interest in, nothing of value lurking behind that forked, poisonous, self-interested tongue. He’d better serve her if he was mute.

The attending paramedic declares him alive again five seconds later after he spits up a prodigious amount of blood on Jounouchi’s starched cream scrubs. He freezes, gloved hands halfway to his chest in an automatic bid to touch it. He’s no stranger to post-death bodily fluids, but he was not prepared to see his best friend’s rival’s body exit the ambulance and imitate Jesus in defying death. Kaiba Seto is once again performing miracles, and of course it’s while Jounouchi is on the clock.

“A robot litter box,” Malik explained, kicking aside the cardboard box it had come in. He packed the flathead screwdriver back in his toolbox, then sat back on his haunches to survey his workmanship. Between the two of them, Malik was the only one who was of any use with tools, owing to his job as a mechanic and his motorcycle hobby, both of which consumed most of his time. Malik had assembled every piece of furniture in the house and Bakura had either watched on, bemused by the idea of constructing anything, or stood nearby to hand Malik whatever tools he requested and make the occasional scathing remark. “The sales lady said it makes your life easier. Saves time and whatever.”
It resembled a spaceship in Bakura’s learned opinion. What about this gadget would entice a cat to defecate in it?
“You’ve lost me.”
Or: Malik impulse buys a cat, and Bakura suffers.
