Summary
a 5+1 AU… in which Graves is not the Director of Magical Security and head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at MACUSA. In fact, he doesn’t work for MACUSA at all. So why is he so regularly in the building, or near their raids, or slipping away from a scene they’re investigating?
The answer some of Clarinda Barillon's aurors come up with is that he’s a Dark Wizard, obviously, and that he’s the real cause of slightly less than half of their troubles, probably - not that they’ve managed to pin anything on Graves yet.
Clary hesitates to commit to the idea. She’s Director of MagSec, head of the DMLE, of course she’s suspicious of the man who keeps appearing around her investigative teams, but she refuses to label him the way her aurors have because assuming things turns out badly, eventually, and because he’s helpful, sometimes, and mostly because no one’s observed him doing anything definitively dark or illegal. (Yet.)

Being stuck on a planet with two primary races is fine. Being stuck on a planet without a working ship is less fine. But when you've got your best friend with you it's fine. Also less fine is ships crash landing. Ships that... are giant lions?
“Pidge is exhausted,” I say in a gentle tone, suspecting that if I stay calm, it'll help the young man beside me to relax. “They sprained an ankle, and their left shoulder is sore and bruised from a skimming blaster shot. Lance is mostly fine, a little sore and possibly minorly concussed, but mainly tired with a large helping of guilt. You,” at this I turn just far enough to see Shiro staring across the room to the other sleeping space, “are the worst off.” He turns to face me now, his expression arranged into one of vague interest – like he knows he should care, but can’t quite do so. “Blaster shots to your right shoulder and chest, concussion, left shoulder dislocated, left arm fractured, left ankle sprained as well.” His mouth drops open before I even finish the list. “You’re going to be rather sore for the next several quintants.”
“What happened to me?”
I smirk. “A wall, according to Pidge.”

Summary
It becomes clear very quickly that Markus... isn't quite sure what to do with the RK900. That he doesn't know what to do with an android that won't accept the deviancy virus, that he struggles to trust an obedient machine, that he isn't comfortable with the newest inhabitant of Jericho.
Someone's gotta fill the gap. Hank has to return to the DPD, Josh is busy dealing with android and human education and leading the PR team, and Simon is busy 'occupying' Markus. (That isn't fair, Simon's useful and is running around nonstop taking care of Jericho and reminding Markus to take deep breaths.)
That means that the duty falls... to North. She's a little reluctant, just like everyone else who's been made aware of this. But spite for their reluctance can be a strong enough motivator to do this and do it well, right?
