Miyuki spends a good part of their second year wondering when Kuramochi would realize he didn’t need to be libero to make an impact on the team—that he was better as a wing spiker, where Miyuki could count on his ability as a defensive player but also trust he’d always be in the perfect position to spike when Miyuki was backed into a corner.
That moment doesn’t come—not before the second years retire, and not after, and in the weeks before their first tournament, before Coach Kataoka is set to announce the team’s new lineup, Miyuki can’t help but hope that the coach agrees with him, that he would give the libero position to the younger Kominato.
It’s not about what he wants, he tells himself. He only wants what’s best for Seidou as a whole.
