There was a huff, causing hot breath to hang in the air between them. “You’re really stubborn, y’know?”
Scaramouche focused on the soft sounds coming from the woodland next to them. He could feel it getting colder as the hours had passed, seeing how Childe wrapped his jacket even tighter around himself. “You’re saying that as if it’s a bad thing.”
“Isn’t it?”
Narrowing his eyes slightly, Scaramouche glanced towards the fire. “I like to do things a certain way, and I don’t think that’s wrong. It’s helped me get this far in my life.” Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Childe discard a fish bone to the floor. It got lost somewhere in the snow. “I have no need for listening to others. Especially not you.”

To escape a bureaucratic shitstorm brought on by his less-than-complete onboarding paperwork, Aventurine comes to Ratio with a proposal: stay married for a period of two years, then get an easy, quickie divorce once Aventurine's residency status is secure.
Only, it's not enough for them to simply get married; the marriage has to look legitimate too. Which is fine. Aventurine can act the part. Except, he's not really acting. Not anymore. And this last-minute trip to visit Ratio's family in Bumfuck Nowhere, Veritas Prime as Ratio's newly minted fiancé is threatening to prove it.

Childe stepped forward until Scaramouche’s back was against the locker. His eyes travelled up to dark ginger hair, before coming to rest on his sharp features.
Scaramouche swallowed, before speaking. “You’re not going to be better than me here.”
“Aren’t I?” There was something in his voice that Scaramouche couldn’t pinpoint, and he watched in silence as Childe’s eyes flickered across his face, between both of his eyes and then down to his lips for a split second. “I think I already am.”
He could do nothing but stare as Childe pulled away, going back to his locker to get changed with a smirk.
