Summary
In the end, a part of Gojo truly had died that day — perhaps the most intrinsic part, important facets of his identity suddenly obliterated. A sorcerer’s life is shaped by awful, terrible things, rhythmed by horror and interspersed by sorrow, but the nature of this loss is new. It’s the mourning of the self, the one fatality Gojo was never prepared to grieve.
To witness his hurt is both a privilege and a curse.
(Or, Gojo and Nanami in the wake of war, in a kinder (?) world.)

Nanami pretends to sigh like he’s trying to expel the weight of knowing Gojo Satoru from his chest—except he knows intrinsically that no matter how much he sighs and exhales, Gojo lives in the cavity of his lungs like the first bloom in a garden.
And Nanami himself was the one who tended to the flower.

Summary
For Gojo, it’s like playing chess—except your opponent is simultaneously someone you’re in love with and the only person you’ve ever played against. The moves become repetitive, predictable: he knows how the entire game will play out only because it’s happened before, and it has happened every single time since he first decided to give up his piece titled king.
Nanami is the one who has a hold on this game, on every game—from the ones in the past to the ones in the future. Gojo has made sure of it.
gojo has a handle on his feelings until he doesn't.
