Summary
Summer at the cottage was supposed to be relaxing. It turns into everything but—when Ilya drops “I could marry Svetlana” for an american visa like it’s a grocery list item. Shane’s face says over my dead body while Ilya, delighted, teases him for looking ready to commit “murder-suicide.” (He’s not wrong.)
Shane Hollander has one big problem: he can’t let Ilya Rozanov marry anyone else. Not now. Not ever. So he does the unthinkable and proposes the most boring solution imaginable almost by accident.

Summary
Schneider cuts in, plowing into Shane, and he drops to the ground. It feels like the world grinds to a momentary halt, Ilya’s awareness narrowing down to the sole point of Shane’s body. Suddenly, Shane isn’t wearing an Ottawa jersey; he’s dressed in Montreal’s blue and is unresponsive in one of the worst moments of Ilya’s life.
Or: during Ottawa's first game against Montreal since Shane's transfer, he goes down. And Ilya snaps.

Summary
Ilya’s hand wraps around his bare wrist and squeezes. Shane barely stops himself from collapsing to his knees.
The pressure lights up every receptor of his touch-starved nervous system, wrenching a small, pained noise from the back of his throat. Every muted sensation comes flooding back so intensely that it almost hurts. He needs Ilya to hold him down until there’s nothing inside him but quiet. He wants to sink into him and disappear.
It takes Shane an entire beat to remember where they are. Fighting against the fog in his mind, he manages to drag his gaze up to meet Ilya’s.
There’s a slow-dawning horror and understanding on Ilya’s face.
