When he got far enough that he couldn’t feel the cold anymore, he took a minute to catch his breath. However, he was running out of steam. His stomach felt like it was about to implode from emptiness and his eyelids were heavy.
Keep going, he urged himself. Enjolras is down there. He’s depending on you. You have to find him again.
I’m coming, Enjolras. Wait for me.

Grantaire is a cynical musician who’s been working on a song to fix things. However, in the bitter cold and desperate times, his motivation is running low. He’s losing hope and doubting himself.
The motivation he so desperately needs comes in the form of the charming Enjolras, who is new to the railroad town. Enjolras is a fighter, determined to bring about better times.
Though they find strength in each other, times are still hard. The promise of freedom may just be enough to lure Enjolras away. However, the promise is not entirely truthful, and Grantaire may just be the only one who can save him.

AKA The Hadestown AU no one asked for. Some aspects of the plot are changed for the sake of the characterization. Maybe the ending will be different... who knows?

Summary
Grantaire could still feel Enjolras’ hand in his as he blinked up against the sun. His first instinct is to search out Enjolras’ eyes, desperate for them to be open, alive, and looking back at him. He turns slowly, not wanting to confirm the worst any sooner than needed. He still has not looked away from the sun, hoping that perhaps it will blind him before he has to look at Enjolras’ corpse. When he finally looks, steeling himself for the worst, Enjolras is not looking at him. His eyes are closed.
Or: Grantaire and Enjolras wake up in a strange land after getting shot in the Musain. How are they alive? Where are they? And who are these men who look just like them?
