Tommy had been a play piece in man’s game before his life with Dream. He still remembers it- thrust into a ring to gnash and claw and burn others like him for an opportunity to live another day.
Even now, years later, he would sometimes sit scratching his claws desperately and endlessly against the exposed metal of his glorified cage to dull them. He would never again be like that, the mutt kit stripped of his innocence with blood splattering his face and copper in his teeth.

Summary
Karl has been living in a small village on the edge of the ocean for as long as he could remember. It’s lonely, but it’s alright, even if living next to the sea is dangerous.
The oceans hold more magic than Karl cares to meddle with. Sirens wail off the coast, sprites and spirits lurk in the depths, and Karl finds little trouble with them because he just tends to his library and minds his own business.
They do say trouble comes in pairs, though.

Twelve years.
It's been twelve years since Tubbo left his old life behind. He wishes he could say that he didn't look back.
In reality, he misses it every day. He misses the stinging salt of sea spray. He misses having soot-stained hands and the burning smell of gunpowder. He misses the excitement. The fun.
Most of all, he misses Tommy.

Tommy’s been surviving on his own and running from the law for... his whole adolescence, really. That was okay, though- he had Tubbo, and the rest of their little posse, and they had /fun/ rustling cattle and jacking trains.
Then family comes a-knocking and manages to spectacularly complicate things.

Wilbur pivots a half-step to the side, twisting his shoulders away from Tommy, looking out over the pond, the ducks in the water with their fluffed-up feathers, the pigeons slowly fluttering down to the pavement and strutting around his feet like old friends. For an absurd moment, Tommy wonders if the birds know his brother better than he does.
“Yeah, well,” Wilbur says stiffly, voice straining for nonchalance and falling dramatically short, “I lied.”

Summary
Phil had had a certain image in his head when the police had knocked on his door informing him that a shapeshifter had been caught living as a dog in the local park and that said shapeshifter had recently used Phil's 14-year-old son's visage for purposes unknown. Yet, upon going to confront this shapeshift, instead of what he'd expected, he found a terrified 7-year-old racoon hybrid. When Phil was told they were struggling to find someone to foster him after all of the stunts he'd pulled, there was really only one thing Phil could do.
Tommy is not particularly enthused to be fostered by the man whose son's face he'd stolen. Foster families were bad enough without already having a reason to hate him and without a lock on his powers. There was no kind reason Phil would want him in his custody. He just needs to figure out what type of bad it will be.
(Yes, I'm writing a story with the same basic premise once again. Yes, I am doing so in a genre that is oversaturated on this site. No, I will not apologize.)

Wolf tracks in the snow, leading toward the edge of the forest. Phil held his hunting rifle firm, circled around to investigate them more closely: two sets of prints, both smaller than his stretched fingers, likely not full grown. One following after the other. Not covered by the snow flurry, either, which meant they’d passed by that morning at the earliest.
Phil glanced around, then knelt and tugged off a glove, touching a fingertip to the indents in the snow. His magic tingled through him like a rush of hot chocolate in his veins, wonderfully warming. He blinked, shook his head a little, cast the spell again. Received the same result.
Not the average timberwolves, then. Werewolves.
