Lo’ak said it - the thing sitting heavy in his chest since they arrived.
“This place doesn’t feel like home.”Neteyam’s jaw tightened just a little. “I know.”
Lo’ak swallowed. “Everything’s different. The way people look at us. The way they swim. The way they breathe like it’s nothing.
Neteyam turned his head then, eyes serious. “It’s not nothing. It’s learned. Just like the forest was.”
Lo’ak scoffed. “You’re already defending it.”
“I’m trying to survive it,” Neteyam replied. “There’s a difference.”
That shut Lo’ak up—for a moment.

Summary
What if Lo’ak’s attempt was succesful, what if the Sully family has to lay both their sons to rest in the same month. Lo’ak did not commit out of the blue but it was something he had struggled with for longer but it took him succumbing to his mental illness for anyone to notice his need for help.
