Holmes was quite sensitive to the cold and Watson had made sure to slow Holmes down enough to get him to dress properly for the weather before they headed out. But despite the layers of clothing, the heavy coat, the scarf, and Holmes’ blanket, Holmes was shivering.

“Holmes?” Watson said in a gentle voice as he entered Holmes’ bedroom. Holmes lay in his bed, facing away from the door. He did not react to Watson entering his room. “I brought you some tea and cake. Mrs. Hudson made the kind you like.”
Holmes still did not react. Just as he had been doing for the past few days ever since that case that had gone horribly wrong.

“Holmes, would you like to go out?” Watson asked, watching Holmes with concern.
It had been quite some time since Holmes had a case and he had not been doing well. Holmes had retreated into himself, barely eating, sleeping, or even speaking. Today he had come out into the sitting room at least and was currently bundled in blankets on his armchair. Watson had wrapped him up, hoping it would help cheer Holmes up and while Holmes certainly appreciated the blankets, he was clearly feeling quite miserable.
