Thirteen-year-old Shane Hollander expects his parent’s anniversary trip to Italy to be two weeks of reading by the pool and staying out of everyone’s way. Instead, he meets Ilya—a Russian boy whose family is staying at the same hotel. He has a sharp smirk and many bad ideas. Quickly, their days turn into swimming in the sea and wandering the beach town, and their evenings turn into hiding out in rocky coves and sharing first kisses. As Shane learns what it feels like to want something badly for the first time, he also learns how temporary vacations can be.
