As the Hero Public Safety Commission President, Hawks implements an experimental rehabilitative program for villains called "P.A.L": the Program for Amending Lawlessness. Villains that qualify are sponsored by heroes who work to help them turn their lives around.
Best Jeanist, No.1 Pro Hero with only lung No. 1, doesn't initially volunteer for the program because of his medical leave after the war. Until Hawks reaches out to him, insisting that one of their candidates could use Jeanist's very specific type of guidance. The Paranormal Liberation Front's co-commander of the Violet Regiment, Geten, who makes Bakugo look polite and makes Shigaraki appear downright saccharine. He's all rough edges and fraying seams, and so Jeanist takes it upon himself to finish the hems and starch and press until he's ready to face life with something /other/ than ultraviolence and concerning political ideologies.Bookmarked by friedgalaxies

You check on the students sprawled around the room. You pat a few heads (Sero, Kirishima, Satou), a few shoulders (Kouda and Kaminari), one hand (Jirou), and pet one bunny. Yaoyorozu, Ashido, and Uraraka are snoozing together on a couch, all covered by the same poorly-crocheted blanket. Iida and Todoroki are at the table closest to the kitchen. Todoroki’s head is pillowed on his arms. Iida stares mournfully into a cup of tea. He looks up when you enter the room, adjusts his glasses, and chops an arm at you.
“How was…” he lowers his arm, blinking rapidly. He tries again. “I mean…” he trails off, shaking his head, at a loss for words. His gaze returns to the half empty mug.
You don’t know if he’s asking about Midnight’s funeral, Aizawa’s progress, or Midoriya’s absence. Everything sort of sucks the same, so you offer a sad smile and ruffle his hair.

As a plus, he was now actually caught up, anxiety apparently being a good source of fuel for productivity. But he had run out of things to do, the sun had set and Mezou had now worked thirteen hours straight at the high rise collapse. Fumikage’s patience was gone.'

Another email is what drags him up from a half-sleep, bleary-eyed. He has to fumble over Hizashi’s chest to get his phone, idly stroking up and down Hizashi’s back with his palm as he settles back to delete the file before he can convince himself to read it.
Is this what everyone deals with, out in the limelight and painted for people to take their shots? Probably. He should have known - should have been softer, gentler with Hizashi when he complained of all of his juggled responsibilities wearing on him back in their twenties. He should have been kinder in his judgement of All Might, too - and a sour, twisting part of him wonders why they never tell him about the hate they get.
Maybe they don’t think he’d be sympathetic. His chest tightens.

And so, when he inevitably messes up, it’s not really a surprise—what is a surprise is that Hawks gets a second chance. He’s never been the best at making it up to people, or at fixing his mistakes, or at…you get the point. But you should already know: Hawks does not think things through.
And this thing? Not an exception.
