Summary
Mike was true when he was young. When he was brave and protective and always stood up for what was right. When he stopped at nothing to find his best friend and keep him forever by his side. When he let himself feel his love openly.
But that Mike was dead. That Mike had been buried for a long time with no possible chance at revival. He hadn’t let himself love for years and that was never going to change.
William Byers was gone. Not dead. But forever gone out of Mike’s desperate reach. He had left for California and never looked back, not even to inspect the shell that Mike had become in his absence.
OR
When Will left for California, Mike never followed and escaped to San Fransisco for college. Years later, Mike returns back to Hawkins and is forced, after years of silence, to talk best friend again. Or rather, ex-best friend.

Summary
Mike should do something. He should tell Will to stay. He should tell Will everything. So finally, he does, starting in the only way he knows how. The only way that he can understand.
Mike sits up, heart pounding in his hollowing chest. Will’s head whips around to face him, his alluring eyes staring deep into his soul. Mike reaches forward, finding his hand in the darkness. Ignoring the warmth he feels at the sudden contact, he squeezes quickly, not once, not twice, but three times. He waits a second then squeezes for a second. Another second passes and he squeezes quickly again, followed by a longer one. Then he squeezes for a second, then quickly, then squeezes two longer ones.
