The shifting colors and blood and skin that was not Michael Shelley briefly gave way to multiple eyes, staring desperatly around before seemingly shriveling up in the face of the ever shifting halls that were nothing and never ended. That was another reason she wanted it out , Michael Shelley had been an archival assistant and no matter how much It Is Not What It Is had surrounded and torn at him and what remained of him that fact had not changed.

Michael Shelley gets his identity back once it is no longer in use by the Distortion. He is then promptly dumped on Jon and his assistants who really aren't entirely sure what to do with an uninformed assistant who has been presumed dead for about eight years.
In America, Gerard Keay is not dead. After the Catalouge of the Trapped Dead was aquired by Trevor and Julia they attempted to destroy it together with a number of other artefacts of varied origin. Turns out, setting multiple magical objects from multiple different fear powers on fire has a number of side-effects, including, but not limited to, bringing one of The Catalouge's inhabitants back from the dead.

Summary

When Jon manages to accidentally pull Michael from The Distortion using The Eye, Michael is left to pick up the pieces, many of which are too broken to ever fit back where they were. Now he has to deal with his own trauma, stop the end of the world, and worst of all, navigate his complicated relationships with his coworkers.

Summary
Michael finds itself flung back in time to before Michael Shelley was sacrificed to the Great Twisting. Great! It can fix what happened, right? The spiral-incarnate can make a good simple plan that works, right?

In all the years - again, time is such a silly concept - Michael has been the distortion, even pulling memories from before it was Michael and Michael was it, it had never been able to go *backward* in time. It could go forward, it could send people into states of warped time. It could change time as it happened. But it couldn’t reverse it. It could never reverse it.
So then how is it 10 years before when it died?
“No!” It spits out, nearly terrified. Gerry’s eyes go back to the brick wall. “I-“ Michael thinks about its words. “I don’t know why she chose him. He didn’t deserve it. Doesn’t. I… I needed to remind myself that he doesn’t deserve it.”
Michael takes a steadying breath.
“And I need to do something to stop it.”
Gerry is ripe with questions, Michael is sure of it. Gerry always was too curious for his own good.

One: He is, as far as he knows, still Michael–although this is dubious, and perhaps does not count.
Two: The world that he lives in is not what he thought it was. It never has been, and it never will be again.
Three: He cannot, in any circumstances from now until the end of days, trust Gertrude Robinson.An AU in which the Great Twisting crumbled before Michael could be consumed by The Distortion–and he emerges, alive and angry about it. Alternatively, an AU in which Gertrude begins to work on her theories about the rituals much, much earlier, and Gerry finds himself chasing the mystery that is Michael Shelley.

Michael Shelley wakes up in Somewhere Else after the Spiral evicts him, and everything is a confused mess, his mind altered by the years spent as The Distortion.
That is, until he meets Gerard Keay, a man who, insistently, claims to be from the same reality as him. Michael doesn’t really know what to believe, but then again, Gerard seems to be the only one beside him who remembers the Institute, so it’s probably worth it to hear him out, right?

It's been 30 years since the events of the game. Odile now lies on her death bed as everyone is gathered for the last time. Just as she takes her last breath, Siffrin feels a tug on his stomach, and is sent back all the way to the day after they all defeated the King. This time though, he hears a familiar voice he hasn't heard in decades.
This fic is going to focus on Loop slightly more than Siffrin, but both are definitely the key players in this fic, along with a healthy helping of Nille! I try my best to let everyone shine now and then at least, but sadly I can't give every character as much 'screen time' as I'd like to. That being said, I hope you enjoy!
