"Not now, mum. Sorry. I can't—" He can't listen to her telling him his form was faulty, nor can he listen to her ask him if he's okay. He's not. She's seen him breakdown in front of her the first few weeks after the breakup. She knows he's not, she should know he's not. She can stop asking now.
"No, Shane, wait. I— have you, um, checked the news? Anything?"
"Not really—" Shane replies as they get in the car, because, really, he hasn't.
"The plane the Centaurs were on has—"
"Oh, they— they've told me," Shane whispers.
"Did you know Ilya still has David as his emergency contact?"
