Summary
After the Great Reveal, even with 24/7/365 access to information online, not everyone reliably heard and read the same facts nor will they ever. And, frankly, there were chapters from the Winchester Chronicles that the participants preferred to remain labeled as fiction. So, a new set of myths arose, creating new bodies of lore.
One of my ongoing irritations with the canon is how quickly the writers dropped plot lines and abandoned stories half-done. For example, putting Team Free Will through unspeakable horrors, and they mostly recover quickly, with the exception of Dean's perpetual guilt about, well, everything. On the other hand, all three of our boys were, at one time or another, possessed by Satan; wouldn't you think some of his Unholiness' powers would linger? What happened to Sam's telekinetic powers? How about Dean's special abilities under the influence of the Mark of Cain and his time as a Knight of Hell? Or Castiel's time as a New God? Or as a Warrior for God?

Summary
The Christmas after Sam leaves for Stanford, Dean can’t bear the loneliness. He decides to check in on Sam, more than once, without letting him know. He discovers that Sam is doing just fine without him, thank you very much. But when he tries to leave town, he runs into Sam at a dive bar.
Inspired by this prompt: (Dean POV) It's holiday season and Dean visits Stanford, not really expecting Sam to be doing this well without him, much less being the posterboy of the whole university (e.g. sport star, joining a band, etc) and it doesn't help that while everyone is head-over-heels for his baby brother, Sammy only has his eyes on him.
