Caitlyn turns around in the bed, following her voice, and finally looks at her. Vi’s fists go soft, her heart slows down.
“I thought you were gone.”
The weak crackle, the hurt in her voice stings at Vi’s throat. She rolls her right shoulder, as if bracing for something. She doesn’t know what it is until she says it out loud.
