Idia remembers the day his words appeared as if it were yesterday. He had just turned eight. Back then, he was still capable of looking forward to things, soulmates included. He and Ortho used to talk about it all the time. What their words might be. How it would feel when they heard them for the first time. Lonely kids cling to dreams like that, and Idia had clung harder than anyone.
That morning he woke up, rolled onto his side, and looked at his wrist. His breath caught in his throat. The letters stood out as if they’d been burned into his skin, sharp and impossible to misread:
You are the most irritating person I’ve had the misfortune of meeting.

“Ace?” a sharp voice inquired. Clear in the quietness of the hallway.
The ginger froze in his steps, and a shadow of a smaller frame was in the doorway, backlit by the lights in his room, looking pointedly at him.
“Uh,” Ace said dumbly, a nervous laugh tumbling out of his mouth. “It’s just your imagination, Housewarden. I’m nothing but a hallucination of your late-night brain. Also, how do YOU know if it’s Ace? What if I were someone else?”
“Ace, I’m not dumb.”

he’d always had some sort of admiration for Riddle, after all, he reminded him a lot of himself, but to actually become friends with him? Or maybe even more? Azul pushed that thought away; there's no way he’d fall for Riddle. The guy was rude, controlling, eccentric, incredibly confident…. Powerful…. And wanted to protect him even though Azul could take care of himself…
Okay, so maybe Riddle did have a few good traits, but Azul definitely wasn't fond of Riddle, and even if he was, there's no way he’d feel the same past basic friendship, right?
Or
A rewrite of book 6 mostly focused on Azul and Riddle, because as much as I love them, canon let them all get off too easily for having to deal with Idias over blot. The plot stays similar for the first chapter developing on Azul and Riddles relationship and diverges from there.
