The Byers-Hopper family had a dead shagbark hickory tree with exfoliating bark in their backyard that they refused to chop down. They had hung a piece of cardboard that Jane Hopper had decorated with paintings of bats, and Will Byers had written Room for Roosting in permanent marker between the paint. Jonathan and Argyle had taken to occasionally taping beautifully-rolled blunts in Ziplocs to the sign.
