Summary
Ava opens the door just as Lizzie goes to knock, sure she's grinning stupidly. Lizzie's face softens with affection.
She reaches out to tug Lizzie inside, and as soon as the door clicks shut, she's kissing her lover desperately.
Hands wind into her loose hair as Lizzie kisses her back. Distantly they can feel Vespera pushing against Solen, and him reciprocating. With Lizzie in their arms though, it's tuned out quickly.
"I missed you," Lizzie murmurs as she pulls away. She rests her forehead against Ava, closing her eye.
"Missed you more." She rubs her thumb against the soft skin of her nape.

Summary
Jay is no stranger to the forest that surrounds Solstice Castle. Hell, she'd practically grown up in them, escaping outside to play as often as she could. Now, she doesn't get to venture into them as often as she'd like. Growing older and being a princess comes with responsibilities that she can't easily shirk.
But for once, she actually has a day off, so back to the woods she goes.
"Gillion, I promise I'll be okay. I'm taking my longbow, and you know Arion wouldn't let anything hurt me." She pats her stallion's shoulder, and continues tacking him up.
"Princess-"
"How many times have I asked you to call me by name when it's just us?"

Summary
Chip wrinkles his nose at his reflection. Since they're infiltrating a ball, he can't wear his bandana. Instead, Jay had pushed a burgundy suit and white button up shirt into his hands, and told him to wash his hair. He'd obeyed, of course, but now he isn't sure if he likes it. He likes the jacket and vest, at least.
Jay steps out from behind her curtain, holding her skirt up. "You wanted me to tie your tie?" The gown is the same burgundy as his suit, the bottom brushing the floor. It's strapless, leaving her shoulders bare, freckles in stark relief against her skin. A layer of ruffles cover the top of her bust. She even has her hair twisted up in a fancy updo, her bangs curling neatly over her face. Chip blinks at her, mouth slightly parted in awe.

Runt studies the item in front of her, and then gives Troy a skeptical look. "Are you sure these are safe to eat?"
"Yeah, dude! They're just candy hearts." Troy blathers on, but Runt tunes him out.
"They're not even shaped like hearts."
"It's like—you make it with your hands." He demonstrates, bending his fingers and setting his hands together to make a shape similar to the "candy hearts."
"Hm." She glances over at Blink where he's bending his talons to imitate Troy. Runt sneaks a glance at Troy where he's "helping" Blink, and discreetly bends her fingers in an approximation of what he's doing.

Summary
Sometimes, Jay thinks she could sit and watch her co-captains forever. Chip, with his eyes bright, and Gillion, with an exuberant smile taking up his face. She nudges her shoulder against Gillion, his tail curling tighter around her calf in response.
It's still odd, how easily she became comfortable on the crew. She can't find it in herself to complain, though. Not when it's the happiest she's ever been.

He suddenly saw all the tiny things in a new light, as if understanding something about himself that he’d never thought to question before. The brief thrill in his stomach when Chip slapped a hand on his shoulder or back, or when Jay fixed his hair for him, running her finger over his scalp, moving between his corals to tame stray strands of hair that were standing up. The easy joy of having Pretzel attach herself to his hand, using suction to defy gravity and stay seated on him for hours. The lingering feeling of warmth that stayed with him hours after he was hugged, and the startling vulnerability he felt when a stranger touched him beyond a handshake. Sometimes, women would drape themselves over him in bars, hoping to find a new customer in him, and even if Gillion didn’t know what exactly they were offering, he always thought their bare skin against his felt—strange.
“Jay,” he said, only a few days later, having mulled it over again and again. “I am hungry for skin.”
"What."
