Summary
At the end of the school day, Aya has to wait to be picked up instead of walking home with her friends. Kunikida arrives in his car, having carved out time in his schedule to get her on the days when her dad can’t, which is most of them.
Today, Dazai sits in the passenger seat, fiddling with the radio dial. He ignores Aya like he always does as Kunikida helps her into the car. He’s probably only here because he wanted to skip out on work. Kunikida says he likes to do that.
Aya’s crutches go on the empty seat beside her, where Dazai’s cane is already lying. It looks less lonely now, at least. She wishes that were enough to make her feel better.

Unbeknownst to herself, Akiko reaches out on autopilot to accept the candy packet. The smell of sugar takes her back again and this time, she lets herself relive it. The chequered tiles and soft music and the sense of belonging in a simple, vintage candy shop. Just for a little while.
Be kind, the butterfly candy whispers as she holds it with shaking fingers. Be as kind as can be.

Summary
According to Kunikida, Christmas at the Armed Detective Agency has never been a big thing, ever. The past few years the most they've done is put up some lights on the outside windows and order a meal for them to share from "wherever is the least amount of a hassle." None of them have ever had lovers to spend the day with, not even Dazai, who claims Christmas is a scam, so they've always spent the day in the office as normal, just waiting for the New Year to come. Atsushi can't claim to ever have celebrated it either. This will actually be his second Christmas away from the orphanage, and he's still just as nervous about spending it with the Agency as he was last year, despite their lack of interest in the holiday.
This year is different, however, because they have two Americans hanging around pretty much all the time.

Summary
“Chuuya-kun?” Lippman’s voice sounds from the other side of the door. “Have you seen Albatross anywhere?”
“Shit,” Chuuya hisses. Albatross opens its mouth, but Chuuya slams a hand over it before it can say anything. “Shut up.”
They clamber off of it, then gesture for it to hide under the desk. When it tries to protest, Chuuya gives it the dirtiest glare it can muster. It withers, and does as they asked. They run a hand through their hair, trying to put it back in place, then wipe their mouth with the back of their hand. They take a moment to slow their breathing before crossing over to the door and opening it.
“Hey,” they greet casually.
