It was ridiculously easy to duck out of the mansion provided by the king. After all, the attendants and guards were watching for the prince, not a princess.
Chigiri was infinitely grateful he’d thought to pack some of his sister’s old dresses.
To be fair, the guards were just doing their job. And it’s not like they were trying to keep Chigiri prisoner or anything. But they hardly would’ve let him out to just wander around the city on his own.
It was probably inconceivable to them that given the use of a palatial home, even if only for a few weeks, Chigiri would want to leave.
Then again, it was probably inconceivable to them that anyone in the entire continent would actually be annoyed at getting married off to their perfect young king.
His parents had been so excited about the proposal they could hardly talk, which did annoy Chigiri a bit. He’d never even met the guy—and had yet to find anyone who actually had. Everyone claimed he was handsome but no one actually knew what he looked like (which meant he was probably hideous).
It didn’t really matter, Chigiri figured. He was going to spend his limited time learning everything he could about the royal city.
And then, he’d escape.
