“Hey,” Eddie said, lowering his voice and bringing a hand up to Buck’s face. With a nudge to his chin, Buck had little choice but to turn his head, meeting Eddie’s direct and serene gaze. “Do you trust me?”
Buck was startled by the question. “With my life,” he answered without hesitation.
For a second, a small smile appeared on Eddie’s face, a shy smile which he quickly masked. His gaze still held the same placidity as he said, “Then trust me now. As soon as you are meant to know anything, I will tell you.”

Shane remembers that detail later because it feels obscene that something capable of splitting a life in half could happen at 4:17 pm on a random Tuesday. It isn’t a dramatic time. It isn’t midnight. It isn’t even dawn. It’s an hour usually reserved for emails and reheated coffee and midday practice. It fits neatly into a calendar square. It looks harmless.
Up until 4:16, the day is aggressively mundane.

I keep thinking about those first few days at the cottage, pre and post love confession. How strange it would be, to spend so many hours, so many meals, with someone you've loved for ten years but have never had breakfast with. Someone you've showered with but have never had a cup of coffee with. Someone whose ass you've tasted but scrambled eggs you haven't....
This story is just a little peek into that time. It's not angsty, just introspective and fluffy.
