Summary
"Maybe in another life, we’re lovers.”
Hermione’s breath caught.
He looked at her.
“And maybe this...” he gestured between them again, “...is just an alternate universe. A different version of that life.”Written for Harmony Out of the Ordinary Prompt Fest, it’s not a traditional AU. No time travel, no soul bonds, no swapped houses or Dark Lords returned.
Just two best friends in their thirties, tangled up in everything but the truth. Harry’s relationships keep ending for the same reason-- they all think he’s already in love with Hermione.
And maybe… they’re not wrong.
A slow, aching, tender unraveling of the story they've told themselves.
One night, one breakup, one firelit living room, one bottle of whiskey...and a universe where Harry and Hermione stop pretending not to be that other love story.

With all his friends out of town-- Ron and Lavender in Northern Ireland, Luna and Draco in Tuscany, Seamus and Dean on their honeymoon, and even Hermione buried in a MACUSA exchange in New England--Harry Potter finds himself truly alone in London for the first time in years. Restless and impulsive, he ventures into a Muggle nightclub and meets a blue-haired, tattooed, and pierced goddess who sets his entire world on fire. She doesn’t give him her name. She disappears by morning.
But Harry can’t let it go.
Set to the rhythm of Niall Horan’s Nice to Meet Ya, this fic, created to fill the Strangers-to-Lovers prompt from Harmony Out of the Ordinary prompt fest, begins with heat and ends with obsession, as Harry finds himself haunted by the memory of a woman he barely knows—but can’t stop wanting to.

Summary
It was Harry, more than any of her other friends, with whom she felt at home. Harry made her feel safe and strong, and though he’d never said it in so many words, she knew he felt the same. There was almost nothing she couldn’t tell him. Their friendship, so firmly rooted in honesty and trust, had always been intense.
But the intensity of those feelings made it difficult for her to keep her attraction to Harry carefully locked away in its mental box.
In moments like this, when she was sitting close enough to see the glint in his eyes as he told a joke and smell the lingering scent of cologne on his shirt, those feelings crept out of their tightly closed box and swam through her brain.
What would it be like to gently touch the stubble on his jaw? To kiss his wine stained lips? To be held in his strong arms?
Hermione could imagine nothing better. Well, almost nothing.
-- OR --
Hermione's long standing desire for her best friend finally finds its way out of the box
