He would be lying if he said he wasn't tempted. Because he has known Mike for a grand total of twenty minutes and already knows that Mike would work hard, could excel if given the chance. And more than that, he likes this kid, his bravado and cheek, the way he can give back as good as he gets. And Harvey only expected to find someone he could tolerate; he never anticipated finding someone he actually liked.
But he can't do it. There are bigger things at play here. He would be betraying Jessica - she’s done so much for him, more than he could ever enumerate, and hiring someone with no degree is not a fine way to repay her. So as much as he wants to go back, to say, "You're hired, you start on Monday," he can't. He won't. Instead he says, "The coast is clear." He thought the hardest part would be going to the hospital and confronting the sight of his boss and friend lying there, but instead it turned out to be confronting his growing feelings for a man he'd never imagined seeing in a romantic light. Harvey's just glad he woke up from his coma, and trying to not be too upset that he's now married to the Associate he's had a crush on for over a year.

“We will, uh, how you say, break the internet?” Ilya had said when he pitched the idea in bed last month.
“I don’t think I’ve ever said that,” Shane had replied, unable to resist the urge to be a little shit. It was their favorite type of flirting.
“Is expression,” Ilya’d huffed.
“I don’t think anyone’s said that in at least a decade.”
“Am I not anyone? I just said it. Keep up, Hollander.”
For their first Halloween together as a married couple, Ilya convinces Shane to dress up in a couple's costume.
