“I can’t believe Cornelius Hickey has a date to Edward Little’s wedding. And I don’t,” James moaned into his hands, his voice muffled where he spoke into the mahogany table.
Francis snorted. “All you have to do is bat those pretty little eyelashes and you’ll have them all falling over you.”
James’ head shot up. He blinked, slowly, eyes wet with tears but no less captivating than normal. Tilted his head down. Batted his eyelashes, once twice. “Oh, Francis,” he murmured, his voice lowered in a seductive way that made Francis’ stomach do something funny.
“No. Absolutely not.”

Francis hesitated. “Well, we should be close to each other. For safety.”
James nodded. “And probably not top bunks. These don't look that sturdy.”
“Maybe this one here for me?” Francis suggested, tapping a bunk at random.
James nodded, glanced at the beds on either side of it, and sighed dramatically. “These both look dirty. Yours looks like the best one in here though.”
Francis’ heart sped up. Was James actually suggesting…“So I definitely shouldn't move, then.”
James shook his head. “So it seems like the only option is to share.”

She had so much energy, Madalyn did. She’d already put on and taken off three different sparkly boas (pink, then purple, and now she was wearing a blue one. The pink and purple were around his neck now. They matched his tiara, Madalyn had promised, and he couldn’t help but smile fondly at her, pulling her close. She was so warm, for someone so small. She barely came up to his hip but she was warm enough to make him feel as though he might never be cold again.
Or maybe the antidepressants had started working.
