Summary
Is that the kind of person Robby thinks he is? Someone who would cheat? It’s strangely hurtful. If Robby had reached out and punched him in the ribs it might’ve been less painful than the ache he feels in his chest right now. Thou shalt not commit adultery. He doesn’t think you need to be Christian to know that’s one of the big ones. Not that Dennis is so religious anymore, but– he’s a good person. He likes to think he is, anyway.
Dennis stares at Robby, swaying lightly, and says, “Wait you– what, you think I’m dating Amy and sleeping with you?”
The day before Robby's sabbatical, he and Dennis have a misunderstanding.

Summary
Dennis hears the revving of a motorbike engine, disturbing his reverie and making him frown. It’s late — who in their right mind is out driving around on a motorbike? He waits for it to pass, so he can slip back into thinking about Robby and dinner and what they might do after dinner, when the engine cuts out. Dennis lifts his head, eyes opening, taking a second to adjust—
“Need a ride?” Robby asks him, holding out a spare helmet to Dennis. "Jack told me you only just left.”
He steps forward, taking the helmet from Robby. “So you’ve been spying on me?”
“The whole time I’ve been gone.” Robby nods, as Dennis swings himself onto the back of the bike. He winds his arms around Robby’s waist, tucks himself in against his back, and contents himself with the familiar warmth of his body as Robby starts the bike up again.

In October, Robby comes home. Dennis tries to decide what that means for them both.

Summary
Dennis looks up through his lashes, voice hoarse as he says, “I saw you and Abbot.”
“Uh huh?”
“Fucking. On the roof.”
Dennis swallows thickly as Robby steps forward, reaching down to tilt Dennis’s head up by his chin. He runs his thumb along Dennis’s jaw, keeping his hand there as he asks, “And you were getting off on it.”
Dennis blushes even harder than he already was, his face a nice shade of crimson. “I–”
“Don’t lie to me.”
Dennis sees something he shouldn't, and is justly punished -- or rewarded.

Summary
“I don’t know what I want to do.” Dennis admits. He looks over at Robby, staring at the side of his face. They’ve been closer than this before, but being in the car together feels strangely intimate. “What would you do?”
“If it was me… I’d at least go for that dinner. But I’m not you. You need to do what’s best for you, Dennis.”
There it is again, his name from Robby’s mouth. It makes his attention linger, still staring at Robby’s face. Dennis is once again overwhelmed with the urge to just bury his face in Robby’s neck and pretend the world doesn’t exist, but that’s not the grown up thing to do. He squeezes his eyes shut for a second, rubs his temples with his fingertips as Robby continues, “Carry your patients with you as much or as little as you like. Find your balance. But remember that you’re human.”
Dennis opens his eyes to the countryside fading away and the city bleeding in. He knows Robby is right. That’s what he needs: balance.
In his last year of med school, Dennis learns to let go of the guilt that plagues him.

Summary
Kinktober 2025 Day 3 - Threesome
“That’s true.” Abbot agrees. “But you find ways to relieve the stress, and that helps keep your balance. How do you relax after a shift?”
“Oh, he’s got ways of relaxing.” Robby chuckles, patting Dennis’s shoulder with the hand that lingers there.
Dennis looks at him like a spooked hare, head whipping round to look at Dr. Abbot. He gives him the same startled look, wondering if he’s going to have to drop out of his programme, maybe move departments, maybe somehow give both Robby and Abbot amnesia so they never remember these moments— but Abbot simply chuckles, leaning back in his seat again.
“Is that so?” He asks, taking another sip of his drink. “Is that the same way me and you used to relieve stress after a long shift?”
Now Dennis feels less like he’s been put under the spotlight and more like he’s the one trying to shine it, looking from left to right and back again. Robby is chuckling still, nodding as he says, “Yeah. Well — no. The kid’s a lot less aggressive than you were.”
