Will flushes crimson, averting his eyes. “I’m– I’m not gonna fall in love.” He says it so quietly and resolutely that it makes Mike’s insides twist. He’s only fourteen, and yet he thinks that his future won’t hold the same thing that it holds for everyone else. Will thinks it’s unattainable. Mike reels with the weight of this realization. How had they missed each other? Like planets, destined to never match orbits? Will is now probably finding love in New York, and Mike is the one left stranded.
