Summary
Mike has finally made it as an author. But writing about your own past can get complicated, especially when fans start to draw conclusions that point Mike in the direction of the person he's been writing about all along.
And living life is hard. Especially when you're doing it all on your own. But grief and love are a lot more similar than you might realise. They both tend to wake us up from the monotony of our lives.

“How could one fail to bestow such adoration and desire for someone of thine caliber, my love?” For a split moment, Will considered getting lost in the moment; letting this version of Mike make him feel wanted and worth something more than he ever felt he could be. Another part of him though screamed at him to wake up from this dream or else fear his real life being seen as a nightmare. He didn’t deserve love from Mike; and he definitely didn’t deserve love from this Mike. This Mike that looked at him as though all the world’s prettiest constellations could be found in his eyes, and his eyes alone.

Mike and Will both believe that the other isn't interested in them, but when Michael the Brave, a literal knight in shining armor appears, looking almost identical to the Mike that Will has spent years pining over, he quickly learns that they managed to take the next step in another universe. Does that mean they could in this one too?

“Why? Why won’t you ever tell me what’s wrong with you?” Carlton’s voice is filled with frustration, and it sounds like nails on a chalkboard to Will.
What is wrong with him. It’s such a loaded question. Why does Will wake up screaming sometimes? Why can’t Will handle the cold? Why are there days when Carlton’s hands on him feel like being kept under water with no way up?
And why can’t Will tell Carlton the truth? How could Will possibly explain it without sounding insane? What is the human translation for being taken and kept in another dimension, violated, and possessed, only to then be violated yet again—
This part of him is something Will is never going to be able to share with anyone else. That nobody would understand.
Why won’t you tell me what’s wrong with you.
“Because you wouldn’t get it.” Will somehow manages to say it without gagging.
And then, Carlton goes in for the kill.
“Oh, but Mike does?”
OR
After leaving Hawkins to go to college in the great city of San Franscisco, Will finally finds someone who loves him. The only problem is that the only person in the world who knows him, is someone else.
