“Let me rephrase,” he says, his voice pitched lower, more seriously. “You know I’m a programmer. You may not know I’m smart, but I am. And I found — well. I know something.” He drags his gaze up to meet Anderson’s: almost a shock, cool-blue like ice water. “Here’s the real question. Do you want to be rich is, perhaps, a side note.”
Anderson’s eyes sharpen on his, a curious narrowing.
“How would you like to embarrass Elijah Kamski by stealing a ton of money that he has set aside illegally, revealing his bullshit to the world, and then splitting the proceeds and fucking off where we never have to talk to each other again?”

“So,” his smirk curls into something wicked, “what might we do to help you overcome this distraction that has plagued you in the lecture hall?” He slides along the edge of the desk until their calves are touching, running his good leg along Jayce's from knee to ankle. “Do you actually need remedial lessons? Or do you just need the opportunity to take your assessment without me in the room?”
Nothing could have prepared Jayce for Viktor being so forward. He isn't sad about it, to be clear; it cuts through a lot of bullshit and for that Jayce is grateful. It is refreshing. He’s still surprised. “Honestly?” Jayce looks up to the other man and softens his expression, risking that it might come off as goofily adoring. “I can't think straight when we're in the same room.”
Viktor's head tilts to the side and his eyes glitter like prisms in sunlight. He is gorgeous. “I certainly hope your thoughts about me aren’t straight.”

Summary
Professional conferences are either a tedious nightmare or an exciting realm of opportunity, depending on your expectations.
Viktor is expecting to be nauseated all the way through giving a presentation that he really, really, really does not want to give and then spend most of the rest of the conference silently lurking without encountering anything of interest.
Jayce is expecting to annoy some substandard researchers, catch up with old acquaintances, and continue to not find anyone who is willing or able to help him with his own revolutionary concepts.
This conference is going to exceed both their expectations.

Summary
The Glorious Evolution is, as its namesake implies, glorious indeed. Only Jayce— Viktor's beautiful, clever partner, Jayce— has managed to escape the loving embrace of Viktor's power, and only because Viktor has allowed it.
It has been endearing to watch Jayce struggle against the slow, inevitable creep of the evolution, but ultimately, his resistance is the cause of great suffering. Not on Viktor's part— no, Viktor has never felt more content— but on Jayce's.
Viktor does not want Jayce to suffer. Viktor only wants Jayce to be happy.
