“So,” Kinn eventually says. “I heard your training is going well.”

It’s a careful understatement. Porsche takes the olive branch anyway. “Yeah, it is,” he replies loftily. “You’re gonna regret giving me to Tankhun.”

A moment’s pause. Then, Kinn asks, “Regret?”

Something changes in his tone. Porsche’s skin prickles, like the charged air before a lightning strike.

“Why would I regret that?” Kinn continues, his voice going low and dangerous. “How many times do I have to remind you that everything here belongs to me?”

As he speaks, he drops one hand from Porsche’s arm and uses the other to tilt Porsche’s face up by the chin. “Everything,” Kinn reiterates.

    Summary

Kinn is looking at Porsche like he’s seen a ghost.

Porsche blinks and the haunted expression is gone, Kinn smoothing it over with something neutral, but there’s still something fragile at the edges of it, like a crystal figurine balanced on a ledge. Kinn’s body relaxes in a way that’s purposefully casual, tucking his outstretched foot back onto the bed.

“You were in the bathroom,” Kinn says. He phrases it like an answer rather than a question.

Or: Porsche left Kinn in their bed with nothing but a note. In the aftermath of the shootout, Kinn can't stop thinking about it.

    “What do you want?”

“You,” Kinn replies, hands a vice grip around his waist.

    “You already have me.”

“Forever,” Kinn rasps. There’s something frantic in the curves of his face, half-revealed under the city lights. “I want to keep you forever.”

    Kinn.

Porsche’s awareness of him fills every one of his senses, drowning out everything else like the whole world around them ceases to exist. Kinn is standing a handful of feet away, dressed all in black, holding his glock at his side with a white knuckled grip. He’s looking down at Porsche, but it takes Porsche a moment to find the strength to meet his eyes. What he finds in them burns; a heat so scalding it sears him down to the bone. A rage so pure it’s as beautiful as it is terrifying.

For once, Kinn’s expression is not guarded, there is no mask concealing his emotions. For once, every single one of them is clear on Kinn’s face, in the furrow of his brows, the tightness around his eyes, the curl of his upper lip. For the first time since he’s known him, Porsche can read Kinn like an open book. And it hurts.

Kinn takes a step towards him, and every nerve ending in Porsche’s body flares to life as he gets closer. He feels Kinn’s proximity like a physical thing. Kinn takes another step, and Porsche feels, more than hears, the whimper that spills out of his raw throat.

The sound makes Kinn stop. He’s still too far away, standing outside of Porsche’s reach. Porsche feels the distance between them like an ache.

Something terrible plays across Kinn’s face. His iron control, so carefully maintained, seems to be slipping, fraying at the edges, peeling back to reveal what lies beneath. What lies beneath, Porsche is coming to realize, is barely human. It’s breathtaking, in all its horror. It’s terrifying. Only Kinn’s rigid self-control has ever kept it at bay. Porsche wants to shatter it. He wants to destroy it. He wants to lay Kinn bare beneath the jagged, bloody edges of it, and see all of him. Every part of him. As he truly is.

“Kinn,” he utters the name like a prayer.
