But unlike the 'and they lived happily ever after' finale the original plot suggests, temperaments clash and conflicts arise. Due to disappointment in their respective marriages, Elinor and the Colonel grow closer.

He keeps the eye-contact between the two of them until she realises and relief floods her gaze.
“Oh,” She clears her throat, fakes a smile and leans into his side; fitting against his frame just in a perfect way. “Well, here I am, honey.”

One way or another, Haymitch ends up pretending to be Effie's boyfriend to save her from a guy who can't take no for an answer.
