It takes longer than he thinks it ought, for flesh to knit and soul to settle into its place; for the woven multicolored thread of Zagreus’ life to be re-spun, knotted over like scar tissue, and the next first beat of Zagreus’ heart to resound in Thanatos’ breast.

In-between these deserted stretches of highway and the rare glare of too-bright passing headlights in the night, Eddie keeps an eye on the kid. It’s dark enough that the contrasts that constitute so much of Connor have deepened, and in the low light his blonde hair seems almost too fair against his dark skin. He’s got a lot of Ollie in him and it’s all the good parts, too.

Thanatos rolls his eyes. "That, and you like seeing me squirm."
Zag grins, wolflike. "What can I say?" His fingers leave Than's hair to fan out over his cheek. "Gold's your color."
