Summary
Things have been good, lately.
Trinity has been good. She likes going to work—likes the thrill of particularly difficult cases, likes the easy back-and-forth she’s starting to build with her coworkers, even likes arguing with Langdon. She likes her little apartment and she likes that she gets to share it with Dennis. (It’s way cleaner, now, and she eats real food half the time. And she has something to do in the evenings other than think about everything she’s lost).
Things have been good.
She should’ve fucking known what would happen if she let her guard down.
~~~
Trinity is cornered on her way home from work. She gets out of it with a stab wound and a whole new wave of old trauma. (And of course, her least favorite coworker is the only one there to talk her down.)
Summary
Looking down at the damp concrete, Dana stifled a sigh. Well, there were definitely worse things to get on her scrubs than rainwater she thought as she sat down next to Santos.
“What’s going on, kid?”
Santos looked away, eyes dropping to her hands as she picked at the skin at the edge of her thumbnail. “Bad case,” she said tonelessly.
“Wanna talk about it?” Dana took a drag of her cigarette, turning her head to breathe the smoke away from Santos.
Summary
If Dennis had to start dying in front of anyone, Trinity Santos would be one of his top choices because he knew she would do practically anything to keep him alive. Sure, a lot of those things were probably crazy and would earn her a lecture from Robby or Abbot or whoever was the attending when they inevitably arrived at the Pitt, but at least Dennis would live to tell the tale.
Dennis pictured his airway closing and Trinity performing a crike on him on the floor of their apartment with the sharp little paring knife she used for slicing fruit. It’s exactly the kind of insane thing she’d manage to pull off.
Since it was after seven, Abbot would probably be in charge of the ER and when they arrived he’d probably say something like, “Doctor Santos, you know that interns aren’t supposed to perform unassisted crikes. But that was super cool.” Or he’d probably never say super cool but Dennis was too out of it to conjure a good Abbott impression and that seemed close enough to the lecture Trinity’d received after the REBOA incident.
Summary
“Are you two, um, dating?” Javadi’s eyes were wide, glancing between Trinity and Whitaker.
“What?” She stared at Javadi, trying to figure out if maybe the other woman had finally grown a backbone and decided to start fucking with Trinity.
“Well, the two of you always come in together and you leave together and you bicker all the time…” Javadi trailed off, glancing between them.
Unable to stop herself, Trinity began laughing. Cackling, really. A loud, snorting laugh that she hadn’t heard from herself in ages.
“It’s not that funny,” Whitaker said with a long-suffering look on his sad little face.
“I’m a lesbian, crash. That’s why it’s funny. He’s my roommate. My very platonic roommate.”
“You haven’t noticed her whole thing with Doctor Garcia?” Whitaker said, clear retribution for Trinity’s laughing spell. “Everyone’s been talking about it.”
Summary
"You did great out there. I'm the one who flopped."
"You didn't, and also people liked you," Trinity bites out, bitter, hating how the words sound when she says them out loud. "Robby liked you. You didn't cause any trouble."
Whitaker doesn't seem to know how to respond to that, which is fair. Trinity wishes she'd never said it.
All she ever does is cause trouble.
