Deep down, Grian knew he should run.
Of course they would hate him—he had dragged them all into this mess, and then he had to go and win his own game to boot. The last thing he should do was test their restraint; just because he hadn’t respawned in the middle of war didn’t mean there were no grudges simmering under the surface—it only made it more likely, in fact, that the unrest was centered around him.
Maybe it’d be quick. Hopefully, once they chopped off his head and watched that crown roll off, they’d be satisfied.
Or, Third Life is over, and Grian still wants to die. If only someone would oblige his wish.

It was all contained in the little movements—Mira had learned most feelings were. It was how Rumi froze on the threshold of rooms sometimes, after she remembered she was only wearing a t-shirt and nothing was stopping them from looking at her patterns. How she recoiled when Zoey linked arms with her now, enough times that Zoey had stopped doing it. How on some mornings when Mira brought her breakfast in bed, just as a treat, she would jerk the covers up over her shoulders in a sleepy panic. Mira would pretend not to notice as she sheepishly lowered them again.
She did notice. (She had too, because if she overlooked something again—)
She couldn’t let HUNTR/X fall apart again.
Today, that meant finding Rumi a pair of shoes to wear. Tomorrow—who knew?

Quackity was on his far right, so that was most likely why Bad’s gaze lingered on him a second at the end, softening slightly. He tried to brush it off and ignore the humiliation slowly creeping back up on him.
