Bookmarker's Notes
sometimes a fanwork perfectly aligns with your vision of the characters: this is one of those times. the world around Claudia and Armand is my world of Interview With the Vampire, with all the hurt required. Lestat's characterisation here captures his casual meanness wholly. you cannot look away. of course the issues around gender and Armand and sex are excellently developed and provides a plausible layer to their and Claudia's courtship. their forms of cruelty are similarly highlighted to great success. fantastic read!

Summary
Obviously, truth is stranger than fiction, and there’s always going to be edge cases in the real world, but for our purposes: just how realistic is Armand’s tragic backstory?
Judging by the number of retweets/reblogs on this post and others like it, fannish opinion seems to be “not very”. But honestly? It’s not that far-fetched.
Or: a fannish academic does a deep dive into the most controversial character in Daniel Molloy’s new novel.

Summary
The picturesque village of Buell, Maine is one of the last in the United States to continue the tradition of the “harvest” or “prosperity” lottery. Its residents insist the lottery makes them stronger, even as condemnation from outsiders grows.
