Summary
Severus Snape has never cared for the holiday season—that much is apparent to all who know him. Yet, as much as he despises the mandatory festivities and false good cheer, Severus has never minded the desserts. So, when he finally has the opportunity to enjoy the Christmas tart so lovingly prepared by the Hogwarts house-elves, he takes it. But the moment he tries to cut a piece for himself, the lights in the Great Hall extinguish. And when they reignite, Severus discovers that the tart has disappeared. With all the students home or asleep in their dormitories, Severus knows the tart-taker must have been someone at the staff party. Yet, who among his colleagues would be so depraved as to steal an entire tart for themselves? Severus is unsure, but Hermione Granger, who has watched too much Muggle television, offers her services as a detective. But will the unlikely duo solve the mystery in time? Or will Severus's empty stomach be his undoing? Moreover, why does Granger keep looking at him like that?

“Oh! I played Rummy with my parents as a kid!” She said excitedly. “I propose a game.” Hermione grinned. "Perhaps Rummy."
Severus broke eye contact while blinking a few times. “A game?” he looked at her with a curious expression. "Rummy?"
“Under one condition: the winner can choose something they wish for.”
“I’m sorry?” Severus tilted his head.
“Nothing illegal, and if the loser really doesn’t like it, there is room for discussion,” Hermione suggested with a smile.
His face lit up with excitement and he took out his hand to shake his. “Agreed.” He grinned. “You want to play now?”
“Now,” Hermione confirmed after she cast a spell to double the deck of cards and then handed them to Severus.
“Game on!” he said as she finished the last of her chocolate cake. “Seven cards per person, double the deck.” Severus smirked and shuffled the cards by magic.

It was probably wrong, on some level, to be fucking a student even though Hermione should have graduated the previous year, but Minerva loved him and loved Hermione even more. While the Headmistress probably disapproved and would have put a stop to things if he had been involved with literally anyone else, she would allow Hermione anything.
So it was convenient that the Headmistress looked the other way when Hermione was frequently missing from the Head Girl dorms and found in Remus’ bed instead. Or his study. Or his sofa. Or on his dining room table, being eaten out for dinner, because Remus had been hungry. Felt as if he had been hungry his entire life, starving, even, and now he could finally feast.
