Obanai stared into the mirror. Despite everything, this seemed to be the hardest part of his day. Fighting the urge to look away was harder than any demon he'd fought. The jagged scars that ran up the sides of his face were horrible. He couldn't imagine an uglier place for scars to be. No doubt he'd be mistaken for a monster if anyone saw them. They weren't honorable or admirable. They were a mark of shame—a permanent tie to his sinful, disgusting bloodline.
His stomach twisted with indescribable rage whenever he thought about his family. Their blood flowed through his veins, rushing under his skin, no matter how hard he tried to get it out.
Regardless of what he did or how hard he tried, he could never forget what happened to him. The scars were a permanent reminder every day.
