Self-indulgent spin-off for my other fic. Same AU (Reverse Character Arcs, Everyone (Important) Lives, Nice Suitors), but…
The king and queen of Ithaca needed to have a son. A daughter wouldn't do, for she would be married off to another prince, who would then swallow their kingdom and do with it what he pleased. But Penelope gave birth to a woman, and Odysseus was dragged to war before they could try again.
What happens to a girl's mind when she's been forced to grow up as the opposite gender? And what if they end up identifying as that gender? Even though he knows how different he is from the other boys, even though he knows nobody would see him as one if he revealed the truth, Telemachus feels like a boy.
And what happens to a boy's mind when he doesn't feel like a boy? And what if it wags its tail when it sees its owner, follows him to the end of the world, destroys things when left alone, barks when it feels cornered? Used again and again, Antinous feels like a dog.

So I was summarizing the story of Dead Plate to my friends because it's my new special interest, and they didn't understand what any of the 71265373 edits I send to the gc meant, and one of them said “You know, for the most part I thought Vincent was the red-haired one, you know, because of the missing ear.” And that made me think.
Any way, they're in the middle of ending 3, Vincent has already van-goghed Rody (iykwim), but decides to spare him. Rody decides to take this opportunity to run away, without the killing Vince and setting the bistro on fire ever crossing his mind. The “running away from Vince” doesn't last for long because he still needs the money.
