“Do you want to read your book?” Eiji gestures to the novel on the coffee table, and aches. Isn’t it sweet how Aslan loves to read? He loves his stories, and laughing at the television, and laying his head in Eiji’s lap. “Or practice your Japanese with me?”
“I think I’m just gonna stand here for a minute.” Ash’s head must be gurgling, and he’s probably thinking that he is the dirtiest thing Eiji will ever know.(He’s not. Eiji just knows these compulsions, these thoughts like the back of Ash’s hand.)

He draws his shoulders back. "My name is Gojo Satoru. There are some things I need to talk to you about. Can I come in?"
"Where are your parents?"
Satoru elects to ignore that question. "It's about your wife."

Satoru dies in winter in Shinjuku, twenty nine years old, and it's not on purpose, and it's not unwelcome. And then it's spring in Kyoto, he's thirteen, and Itadori Yuji has just been born.
