Kate Sharma, co-founder of Chosen & Cherished, a charity that provides mentors to foster children in New York City, is presenting to a philanthropic committee at the Bridgerton Hotel for additional funding. Anthony Bridgerton, heir apparent to an empire of hotels and resorts spanning the globe, is apparently above listening to presentations about foster children. Handsome to the point of distraction? Check. Rude, privileged asshole? Check, check, check. And oh, how Kate *hates* him.

“You do not care what others think of you?” He asked. The man studied her and then quickly looked at their surroundings. “I find that difficult to believe.”
“And why is that?” Kate was not certain why she felt compelled to argue with the man, though he seemed to enjoy the back and forth. As did she, not that she would admit as much.
He tilted his head. “You are attending a ball where the goal of nearly every unmarried person is to find a suitable match. We base such matches on what we think of others actions or status, do we not? To attend such an event disproves your earlier claim.”
“Enlighten me, my lord. Is that your goal? Are you looking for a suitable match?”
He pursed his lips and looked away momentarily, and Kate felt herself almost sway at his movement, as if pulled into his orbit. He took a step closer. “And if I were to say yes?”
“If you were to say yes, then I would suggest it would do you better to peruse the dance floor rather than this terrace.”

Five months later she has a sketchbook full of Anthony, 29, barrister’s hands, arms, and shoulders when Edwina calls her.
“Didi, you know Anthony, the guy I’ve been seeing? I’d really like you to meet him.”
And when she walks into the café, Kate sees a smile that really should not be as familiar as it is, directed at her sweet, innocent baby sister.
(Kate sees Anthony's bumble profile and finds it very pretentious. It does not stop her from obsessively drawing his arms though. Until he starts dating her sister.)
