Will’s voice trails off, and he runs a hand over his face. Mike waits a few moments to see if he’ll say anything else, but when Will doesn’t, he takes a shaky breath and tries to find his own courage.
“And you thought, what?” Mike whispers. “That - that it wouldn’t mean as much to me if it came from you?”
Will flinches. He’s still turned away from Mike, and there’s a desperation in his voice when he whispers back, “Mike, please…”

Summary
In the final battle in the Abyss, Will faces the Mind Flayer. Fully aware of the risks of his connection to the Hive Mind, he’s willing to do anything to protect his loved ones and put an end to the nightmare that has haunted them for so long. Meanwhile, Mike discovers a deadly flaw in the plan. Will he manage to fix it before it’s too late?
Or... a finale fix-it inspired by that documentary glimpse we saw, because we deserved Will against the Mind Flayer and a Mike who actually has agency and isn’t just a cardboard cutout.

At the creaking of the rooftop door, the early morning sun rose above the buildings, shining and reflecting off of the windowed skyscrapers in what resembled the night sky. The horizon-line was littered with tops of buildings, ad-boards, and just the slightest haze of fog hanging over the city.
Beneath them, the slow, sluggish morning carried on. Cars honked, the busy streets of Seoul bustled, as it seemed they always did. Everyone down there had a place to be. Gi-hun knew he had a place to be, too, yet now, it was right where he’d found himself— atop the roof.
The cool scent of the air filled his nose, a light breeze just barely biting through his scrubs, sending goosebumps down his arms towards the back of his neck. Spring-time was on the cusp of ringing true, you could smell it. That was Sang-woo’s favorite season.
Sang-woo. There Sang-woo stood. Stepped over the railing, stood on the edge of the building.

The desert keeps on passing by the window, and the sun keeps on setting, and Will tries not to burst from the strength of his emotions. Mike’s heavy head shifts minutely, settling more comfortably in a dip on Will’s shoulder, and he leans more of his weight onto Will. It’s a form of torture. Will doesn’t want it to end.

“Oh come on, Mike, don’t be like that. I’m not that special, and I’m not even... experienced in any of this.” Will looks down to his lap, where his fingers are twisting around each other nervously. Mike comes to an abrupt stop in front of Will. “Come on, Will,” he whispers softly as he slowly lowers himself to the floor to kneel in front of Will. “You know how special you are, don’t you?” As he looks up to meet Will’s eyes, he reaches for his hands, untangling them slowly before intertwining his own fingers with them. “You’re everything anyone could want.” Will huffs at this and averts his gaze, as if Mike had made a bad joke. “Don’t bullshit me, Mike. I just graduated, and I haven’t kissed anyone ever. It’s going to be a total disaster if he tries to kiss me and I mess it all up.” Mike tries to tune out the traitorous thoughts that are sneaking into his brain at almost superhuman speed.

“You know exactly what I mean, Mike.” Will snaps, turning back around. He continues walking away from the front door—away from Mike—his pace increasing as he tugs his creaky old bike along with him.
“No, actually, apparently I don’t know anything anymore!” Mike jolts forwards, following Will—who has now left the cover of the porch and is being soaked in rainfall—and grabbing him by the shoulder. Will stops walking and turns around, but he flinches back as if Mike’s touch has burned him. Mike removes his hand. “I thought I knew that we were a team now; I thought I knew that things were good,” Mike continues, shivering and brushing his now wet hair from his forehead. “But here you are, telling me I’d like it if you were dead, trying to run away without even saying a word to me—do you know how that fucking feels?”

“You can keep flapping, or whatever it was you were doing when I came in,” Will says. “You don’t need to hide that from me. It’s not like I didn’t see it when we were kids.”
Oh. That. Mike doesn’t do that anymore. He’s not supposed to. It was childish even then, at the ripe age of eight. That’s what his mom and teachers said, at least. They’d make fun of him for all sorts of stuff— fidgeting, rocking, chewing on his fingers. He’s grown up now. He doesn’t need it.
Will must read the hesitation on his face, because he nudges his shoe again. “Come on. I know you want to. It always used to help when you were upset like this.”

Mike doesn’t understand why he’s suddenly lost all control over his thoughts and actions. Will seems to know Mike’s habits better than he himself does.

Summary
There’s something wrong with Will.
It started three weeks ago, almost four. Will had woken from some sort of nightmare and, instead of seeking comfort in Mike the way he usually would, he’d rolled out a sleeping bag from the closet and chosen to sleep on the floor.
No one believes Mike, except for Joyce. But even she doesn’t understand the full extent to which something is wrong with Will.
Mike understands, though. Mike has been paying attention.
