She did not work this hard for this long to be sent home halfway through her second year of college. That was not in the equation. That was not in her meticulous five-year plan. Karmi did not deliberately, fastidiously construct her life around graduating high school early to attend San Fransokyo Institute of Technology to drop out as a sophomore.
She is back at home several states away. It is late at night, and she has no classes to wake up for. She would move to turn on her side but her legs are aching in the way she's learned means not to do that.
Karmi didn't expect to have the title of 'youngest student at SFIT' taken from her. She didn't expect for the title of 'student' itself to be taken, too.

“Why are you trying to choke me?” Globby asks, his voice a mixture of confused and upset and exasperated. Not hurt. Not scared. Not understanding.
Nega-Globby’s metal fingers clamp around what in a human would be soft, vulnerable flesh and in Globby is nothing more than material connecting his head to his body. Bloodless. He threatens to sever that connection, to decapitate Globby, the tips of his fingers close to touching with only a mucus membrane separating them.
Nega-Globby emits a low, guttural tone not unlike a growl. “I have to,” he spits.
Nega-Globby fails to eliminate the original Globby.
