Technically, Martin didn’t have to work. He had his official certification of being a Rift survivor, his meagre government cheque - which would just about keep him in baked beans and secondhand jumpers - and his eagerly pouncing memories, which clawed into him at intervals and dragged him down into spirals of horror and despair.
But it turned out that he didn’t do so well without a solid occupation and that his self-worth remained directly tied to his perceived usefulness, whatever his several therapists had to say on the subject.

Summary
With Martin's new job and his rather unique circadian rhythm, it's no surprise that he's a bit of a night owl.
That adjustment has taken some effort on Jon's part, however. While he’s always been the sort to throw back a cup of coffee at 11pm and scribble away at his notes into the dead of night, even he has his limits. The amount of times Martin has found him doubled over onto his desk with papers stuck to his cheek is evidence of that, even if Jon vehemently denies having fallen asleep while talking in his sleep when Martin scoops him up and carries him to bed. He's not fooling anyone.

Summary
Jon and Martin have been steadily building a life together in Somewhere Else. Martin has stayed with Jon throughout all the difficulties and hardships, even when Jon only added to problems. Jon only wishes he could take care of Martin the same way Martin takes care of him, and wishes he could accurately show Martin just how much he loves him.
