Jason nods, quiet understanding shining in his blue-green eyes.
“You guys are just really close, I think.” Duke thinks about how easy the ribbing, friendly competition, and banter are between the others, and he feels displaced. Like a broken branch grafted onto a different family tree.
Like he doesn’t belong.
“I just don’t—” He sighs, “I just don’t know where I fit into all of that, I guess.”

Summary
“Jaybird!” Dick yells as soon as he pulls the double doors open, and Jason can see the trail of little ducklings behind him.
Duke, Steph, Cass, and Tim are in a neat line behind Dick, and they all look miserable. They’re all wearing pajamas, each with their own tissue box. Damian is standing apart from them with his arms crossed, and Alfred The Cat is perched precariously on his shoulder, but the illusion of an upset healthy prepubescent teenager is very obviously ruined by a very red nose, and the pale pallor of his normally deep tan.
Dick is the only one who doesn’t look miserable, and Jason laments his own health and simultaneously curses Dick’s extremely abysmal culinary abilities and prowess.
Jason has no words. He wants to step back, away from the sick children. He wants to go back to his germ-free apartment and watch the newest episode of Great British Bake Off with Roy.
He takes a step back.

Or, wherein Tim got his spleen taken by Ra's like in canon but little does everyone know that Jason had sold his spleen when he was a kid to try and get Catherine into rehab (and she still died of a drug overdose.)

And Dick was—he wasn’t okay with it. Not really. Bruce had given away Dick’s name as if it were something that he had rights over—like he got to take it away and give it back again at his own will. But ultimately Robin wasn’t Bruce’s.
And this realization made Dick cry, a bit.
Because Robin wasn’t Bruce’s, and had never been. Not in the way that Robin had belonged to Dick, at least. But suddenly Robin wasn’t Dick’s anymore either.
Dick could see another piece of his heart break away, gently. Softly. Without fanfare and drama.
And so Robin became a legacy. A mantle.
And Dick watched as his heart made its way through his family.

Summary
Jason Todd goes to Titan's Tower to send a message. He won’t kill Robin there, no—that wouldn’t be poetic enough. Instead, he’ll torture the cuckoo to death and dump his body in the Nevada desert, never to be found—ensuring he has enough fingers and toes to mail Bruce for the next twenty years.
Only when the time comes, Jason…can’t do it.
Now he’s stranded 3,000 miles from Gotham, with nothing but a smart-mouthed Robin, a beat-up pickup truck, and a dream.

Summary
Jason bites back a groan at the flash of what could only be Dick’s fingerstripes a rooftop over. The last thing he needs right now is Nightwing poking his nose in his business. He’s tired and achy and cold. The rains been non-stop all night and it’s soaking through to places that shouldn’t be possible.
Jason wants to go home. If it weren’t for the time-sensitive nature of the lead he’s chasing, the sight of Dick would definitely have sent him there.
