Strapped for cash and still meandering in mind and spirit, he resigns himself to an irregular schedule by renting a flat as a day tenant. At the same time, Alfons Heiderich moves from Augsburg to Munich and rents the same flat as the night tenant, a holdover until he can find longer-term housing when he returns from Romania. In this liminal time frame, without meeting each other in person, the two young men learn about each other like true scientists — through observation and hypothesis. | (2021)

Ed does't remember what the sun feels like on his face.
He didn’t forget the entire existence of sunny days; he remembers squinting his eyes against the horizon, he remembers having to plan higher water rations, he remembers the stink of a full ship in high summer, he remembers warmth, but only academically.
He can’t remember how it felt in his bones, in his skin, in his chest, to have the center of the entire universe’s light and life pointed right at him.
So when the sun comes back, all he can do is trust his instincts, jump headfirst, and hope he catches him.

He’s genuinely delighted by how… genuinely delighted Mr. Moonlight seems to be by his shop. “We’ve got just about everything you could need for sewing or crafts projects, plus we’ve got a bit of a vintage shop going if you just look about, and then there’s an alterations department out the back,” he says. “I’m Stede, by the way.”
The man—always moving, always in motion, it seems— stops revolving in place for a moment to face him. “Stede? With a ‘D’?” He asks, and at Stede’s nod, he holds out a hand. “I’m Ed.”

Lighthouse Fine Fabrics and More (Alterations & Repair Services in Back) is Stede Bonnet's pride and joy—the cozy catch-all haberdashery and crafts shop he's always wanted. Life is good, until Edward Teach needs some black fabric dye. Then it's great.

Summary
Ed and Stede find out they’re not as alone on their new island as they might have thought. This turns out to be a very good thing, especially when it becomes clear that pirate life is not quite done with the pair of them.
A 'season three' style what-if.
Ed nudges Stede’s arm suddenly, and points south. It takes Stede a moment, but he stares in surprise when he spots what Ed has. The presence of the ruined shack itself, standing along a scuffed sandy trail, should probably have been a clue — but Stede still manages to be startled by the sight of a small cluster of buildings on the eastern side of the bay.
“Guess it’s not so deserted after all,” Ed says.
Stede frowns a little. “Is that… okay, do you think?”
Ed shrugs. “Sure? I mean, we might need to go check it out, see what the vibe is.”
“Oh, if there’s people around the island – that could be customers for the inn!” Stede beams.
