Summary
Boris wanted Theo. He wanted him so much he couldn’t help it, but it wouldn’t matter. Because life would shun them, shun Theo who just wanted a perfect life. Boris wanted to cry with Theo, but he wanted to seem like the stronger one, so he couldn’t do anything about their relationship. No matter how hard he wanted to shake Theo so hard to get it into his mind that he wanted him bad.
Theo wouldn’t ever remember doing this. He wouldn’t remember the kiss, he wouldn’t remember his sobbing.
They just went back to Theo’s house and never brought it up again. But Boris would remember. He always remembered when they would kiss or do it. Maybe that was how it would be for the rest of their time here in Vegas. Until Theo goes back to New York, finds a wife and kids, forget about Boris, and it wouldn’t matter if he was happy or not. He would still have a normal life, even if a part of him still yearned for Boris.
Even, if also a part of Boris also yearned for Theo.
He would forget this, and it would mean nothing.

Seats.
That’s the first thing that clicks into place.
Rows of seats, crooked and wrong, some of them twisted sideways, some shoved forward at strange angles like they’ve been kicked by something enormous. The fabric is torn in places, foam spilling out like exposed bone. Overhead compartments hang open, some ripped clean off, their contents scattered everywhere.
A girl is crying. No, not crying. Screaming. Bent over herself two rows up, arms wrapped around her head, rocking back and forth like that might help. Another one is slumped sideways across a seat, blood smeared across her forehead, eyes open but not focusing on anything at all.
Natalie’s stomach drops.
Plane.
She’s in a plane.
Or,
The Wilderness chooses Natalie one last time to go back and save them all.
Think.
Act.
Endure.
